iMac G3 400 DVSE--airport card? - chopper - 12-31-2006

Man oh man. Seems like yesterday when I bought this thing and brought it into the press room and wowed my editors with the ability to make little movies and things. It's been in my garage for 4 years now with occasional pops to bring the OS up to date. Because a computer that sits in a garage on a shelf needs to have the OS kept up to date ("preach on brother chopper!").

Anyway

I am thinking about buying an Airport card for this puppy and then giving it away to someone who needs it.

Airport or Airport Extreme card?

Chopper

An original Airport card (802.11b) plus a card adapter are required for that model iMac. Card and adapter cost twice what the computer itself is worth.

I think it's still a fine machine for some people. As stated, it will need the original card with an adapter. Both can be found these days for around $60-70 total on places like LEM Swap, don't try ebay. There are some other wireless solutions for that Mac, but I think an Airport card is the cleanest and most reliable. Kudos for wanting to make someone happy with a "new" Mac.
Good luck.

gone through many dozens of iMacs here, and at clients' sites, and am still hanging on to a similar graphite beast, simply because of sentiment... it was one of our original slot loaders, and Baby Buzz even used it for a couple of years, too. it was our first airported model, and it worked great; tough to let go of. I think we still have a small pile of adapters for the original AP cards to fit that machine. PM me, and one's yours for shipping only, since you're doing a solid for a future mac'er in need... have more adapters now, than machines that use 'em (only that one machine left that fits...).

If you want a cheaper solution try some of the USB Wireless adapters. Good source of some here:

Look under Interface USB.
