Mask Dumassery continues - cbelt3 - 02-02-2021

Okay, it's been almost a year. And I keep seeing people wandering around shops wearing the stupidest 'protections'. What the HECK are people buying ?

A couple wearing some clear plastic gizmo that looks like a personal sneeze guard, exposing the nose and above the mouth. It just seems to 'catch' if they cough out gobbets of goo. Of course an explosion of particles will spread above them and waft forward anyway.

An elderly lady toddling around wearing just a face shield. Dear heart, nobody is using a grinder near you. And you'll expel particles AND breathe in everyone elses.

And of course the usual "I've got a mask" dick nose, chin strap, hanging by one ear, etc..

The toddlers are smarter than Mr. and Ms. "chin diaper"...

There are a few plastic wearers here at work, they are of a certain societal view which I won't mention so as to not get this thrown on the other side. My coworker is one, but his excuse is that he has asthma and can't breathe through a mask. Never mind that both of my nephews suffer with asthma and they have no problem masking up.

The people with breathing issues are the ones who should be protecting themselves the most - if they get infected, it’s not going to be pretty. Speaking as one myself. N95s are not comfortable but I wear them anyway.

Ditto on the asthma... lifelong asthmatic here. And I will confess to having the odd panic attack after wearing the mask for half an hour or so to go shopping. I have to go calm myself down away from people. But there is no darn way I can survive getting a bad case of COVID-19.

Got on the subway this afternoon; had to run and jumped into the last car as doors were closing. Nine people in the car, none with mask over nose. So at the next stop, with me still gasping, I moved forward a car. Eight out of a dozen unmasked and at least one smoking. Moved up again, to a car with only a couple of unmasked riders.

Coming home, I chose a different line with more middle-class/white demographics. Only one guy unmasked in my car.

This statement probably sounds more racist than you meant it to.

An epiphany from a white guy
