I found this article extremely clarifying for me, and helped me understand why so many behaved and continue to behave the way they are.

It's important to remember that one of the few books Trump was ever seen with was a compilation of Hitler's speeches. There is no doubt he styled himself after the Fuhrer.

The worst part of is is the concept of a 'government in exile' that Trump is trying to sell. "Office of the Former President" indeed.
Let's face it.. his only goal is to suck cash out of his followers. He's got some major debts to pay this year, AND has to pay lawyers. Up front. Or he knows he's going to jail.

Hitler was 30 at the end of WWI and Trump is 74 while gorging on fast food, so the cult of personality will necessarily be shorter this time around.
