Amazon totally jumps the shark on packaging this time - davester - 02-03-2021 I just received a box from Amazon that measures about 24" x 18" x 9". It's weight...about the same as an empty box. Upon opening, what should I find but a ton of bubble wrap and a thin padded 6" x 3" envelope. Inside the envelope...6 button cells. Re: Amazon totally jumps the shark on packaging this time - Gareth - 02-03-2021 I get the same from Amazon. I'm starting to wonder if they're not allowed to ship button cell batteries in just a padded envelope since they are lithium batteries. Although that box is still way way way way oversized. But, I don't think the Amazon workers get paid/rewarded for efficient packaging, rather, it's more about how many packages can you ship in an hour, so if that's the box that's on hand, that's the box it's going in. Re: Amazon totally jumps the shark on packaging this time - samintx - 02-03-2021 I have had that happen on occasion . Re: Amazon totally jumps the shark on packaging this time - N-OS X-tasy! - 02-04-2021 This time? Re: Amazon totally jumps the shark on packaging this time - rgG - 02-04-2021 That is just nuts. When I first opened it there didn't appear to be anything in it because the button cell envelope was hiding under one of the flaps at the bottom of the box. Re: Amazon totally jumps the shark on packaging this time - GGD - 02-04-2021 I'm pretty sure that Amazon's choice of shipping packaging is all selected by computer, so there's probably some error in the database for that item. Maybe a dimension listed as feet instead of inches. I think there's a way to give "packaging feedback" in the order status page. I did that once in the past when they used a type of packaging normally used for books that just had folded in flaps, and when stuffed with the items I ordered would open up in transit and the items would "evaporate". Re: Amazon totally jumps the shark on packaging this time - Microman - 02-04-2021 Ordered a Disney "PIN" and it came in a 1 and 1/2 ft by 4 " x 4".... way bigger than needed Re: Amazon totally jumps the shark on packaging this time - GGD - 02-04-2021 Here's a 16 page research paper from some Amazon employees related to packaging selection. https://assets.amazon.science/0c/6c/9d0986b94bef92d148f0ac0da1ea/think-out-of-the-package-recommending-package-types-for-e-commerce-shipments.pdf |
