numbers game?!......this sci-fi series reboot [ originally on lesser network ] ordered straight to series...... - NewtonMP2100 - 02-09-2021 ......'The 4400' reboot ordered straight to series by 'the CW'....... The 4400 Reboot Gets Straight-to-Series Order at The CW ....The former home of The 100 will now make room for The 4400. The CW announced on Tuesday that it has given a straight-to-series order to The 4400, a sci-fi drama based on the original TV series that ran on USA Network for four seasons in the mid-2000s and starred the likes of Joel Gretsch, Megalyn Echikunwoke and, yes, future Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali. In development for more than two years (originally with a different creative team) and now penned by executive producer Ariana Jackson (Riverdale, UnREAL), the reboot follows 4,400 overlooked, undervalued, or otherwise marginalized people who vanished without a trace over the last hundred years and are all returned in an instant, having not aged a day and with no memory of what happened to them. “As the government races to analyze the potential threat and contain the story, the 4400 themselves must grapple with the fact that they’ve been returned with a few… upgrades,” reads the official synopsis, “and the increasing likelihood that they were all brought back now for a specific reason.”........ another......reboot..........?! Re: numbers game?!......this sci-fi series reboot [ originally on lesser network ] ordered straight to series...... - ztirffritz - 02-09-2021 I really enjoyed the original series, but I seem to recall that it ended abruptly with no resolution. Re: numbers game?!......this sci-fi series reboot [ originally on lesser network ] ordered straight to series...... - rjmacs - 02-09-2021 I recall that also - I think it was canceled before it could really complete the story arc. Re: numbers game?!......this sci-fi series reboot [ originally on lesser network ] ordered straight to series...... - Paul F. - 02-09-2021 Excellent show in the beginning. It had started to wander aimlessly a little just before cancellation. Some really outstanding performances. Sounds like they're taking the "Woke" path for this reboot... I don't hold out much hope that they'll bother with decent writing. I enjoyed it got premature cancellation. Re: numbers game?!......this sci-fi series reboot [ originally on lesser network ] ordered straight to series...... - PeterB - 02-10-2021 Ughhhhh!!! This is actually one of my all-time favorite sci-fi series, and did NOT need to be "remade" or "re-envisioned" or "reimagined" or whatever BS term they're now using. I'd actually just started rewatching it, because I'd forgotten so many of the plotlines in the time since I'd originally watched. It was meant to end after three seasons, and they unexpectedly got four, which is why the series seemed to meander a bit toward the end. I would have liked a fifth season, but the fourth was good enough -- and it did indeed end on a cliffhanger, which got resolved in books published by the writers afterward. Not only outstanding performances (as Paul F. notes), but some great music, cinematography, etc. -- basically what you'd expect for a Canadian (Vancouver) production. Can't they please leave decent, old series alone, and come up with something NEW. I see that the current term seems to be "reboot". A reboot, as I understand it, is just computer-speak for a restart, but they've suborned the term, and now reboot is apparently just a euphemism for "rehash". If you take the name of something, but then change the spirit of it, all the characters or names, or even the entire plot or concept, it's not a "reboot". I'm particularly thinking of Trek and the Spider-Man movies ... so-called "reboots" that have been just terrible. On the other hand, the recent Planet of the Apes movies have been pretty decent, but arguable if those were reboots so much as true reimaginings. I see that the current term seems to be "reboot"... "Riverdaling." They copy the show "Riverdale," subverting the original material in favor of shallow sensationalism and something masquerading poorly as eroticism with no care for authenticity or continuity. In this case, they're actually employing some key figures from the show "Riverdale," so take any hope you have for a decent product and consider them dashed. |
