Time Machine: backing up 2 drives at once - Numo - 02-09-2021 Recently I made an external SSD my startup disk, so I am now using my iMac internal HD for storage. But I can't find out how to get TM to backup both of these disks at the same time. I assume TM automatically backs up the boot disk. Is it possible to have TM include my internal drive when it backs up the external SSD? I know I could back up the internal with CCC but that is an extra step and not automated. Re: Time Machine: backing up 2 drives at once - jdc - 02-09-2021 Just pop into the options and check. Pretty sure it will backup everything, internal and external unless you tell it not to. Ran my system that way for years, with 2 externals Re: Time Machine: backing up 2 drives at once - NewtonMP2100 - 02-10-2021 ....uhm......the time.......paradox....??? Re: Time Machine: backing up 2 drives at once - Sarcany - 02-10-2021 Go into the "Options" in the Time Machine pref's and remove the second drive from the "Exclude" list. The internal drive is also a boot drive, could that be the problem? Re: Time Machine: backing up 2 drives at once - Sarcany - 02-10-2021 Weird. Are both drives called "Macintosh HD" ...? There might be a conflict. Maybe rename the external boot drive to "Macintosh SSD" and then let it back up once so that it updates the backup properly with the name-change and then reboot and see if the internal drive shows up in the exclude list. (Just throwing stuff at the fan..) Re: Time Machine: backing up 2 drives at once - jdc - 02-10-2021 Ammo wrote: That’s the rub - the only drive listed in the exclude list is the TM drive. Re: Time Machine: backing up 2 drives at once - Ken Sp. - 02-10-2021 It may already be backing up the internal drive, if you go to the time machine back up drive, and look in your back ups, it will tell you which drives it is backing up. In other words, I’m trying to avoid making a separate TM backup for each drive. |
