(Not really, they can be quite dangerous!)

” A skier was mauled by a bear in Alaska and rescued by helicopter “

‘ A skier in Alaska was airlifted from the side of a mountain over the weekend after he was attacked and mauled by a brown bear.

The victim was part of a group ascending a mountain during a backcountry ski outing near Haines, Alaska, on Saturday, according to the US Coast Guard. The man suffered injuries to his head and hands when he was attacked.
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game said the victim inadvertently awoke the brown bear in a den, a mother that was likely protecting her cub.
"The skier who was attacked at some point realized he should play dead, which is probably a good idea in this type of circumstance," state wildlife biologist Carl Koch told CNN. ‘

Wow, that's good to know.

Personally, I'm in no danger. I can't even stand for more than 5 seconds while wearing skis. You'll never find me on a ski slope.

On the one occasion I took a ski lesson, I fell into a bad position while being pulled up a slight incline by a tow bar, and got slammed in the head by one tow bar after another until rescue came.

At the end of the lesson, we were told "You are all ready now for the beginner's slope! But not you, S. Pupp - you should take off your skis."

Some people are not meant for skis.

I've never seen a tree while skiing, at least none close enough to hit. Then again I haven't been water skiing in years, so maybe things have changed.

As the guy that does go skiing every day of the season, it's a serious issue in deep snow years. Which is not this year...

I can't stand cold weather, so I've never skied.

I miss it. 152 days when I lived at the end of Tramway. Could snap on my skis swing down the access road and away I went... rent was $80 a month.

Still looks the same inside: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/495-Tramway-Dr-17-Stateline-NV-89449/7247334_zpid/?

^ I was fooled at first as there is also a "Tramway" in Incline Village and I could not place that run. Now I see it's near the Heav. Nice work hitting 152...that is right about my personal best as well.

Bucket list is a 300 day season, which will require living in Argentina half of the year or Mount Hood.

Sorry, should have been more specific, Heavenly, Nevada side, up Ski Run, near The Ridge.

Was the winter of 89, which was a slightly above average year if I remember right.
