True Lies Reboot Pilot Ordered at CBS
.....True Lies is on its way to the small screen… again.
Three-plus years after a pilot adaptation of the Arnold Schwarzenegger action film was greenlit at Fox, it now has a pilot order at CBS.
The project hails from James Cameron, who directed and produced the 1994 action-comedy, as well as McG (Supernatural) and Matt Nix (Burn Notice). (The Fox version, which did not go to series, had Arrow co-creator Matt Guggenheim attached.)
Behold, the potential series’ official logline:
"Shocked to discover that her bland and unremarkable computer consultant husband is a skilled international spy, an unfulfilled suburban housewife is propelled into a life of danger and adventure when she’s recruited to work alongside him to save the world as they try to revitalize their passionless marriage.
In the film, Schwarzenegger played Harry Tasker, whose family thought he was a boring computer salesman but who actually was an American spy. Jamie Lee Curtis played Harry’s wife, Helen; the cast also included Tom Arnold, Eliza Dushku, Bill Paxton, Tia Carrere and Charlton Heston.
20th Television will produce.

One of those movies I have to stop and watch if its on TV, fun.
Would love the series to be great... assume it might be shot in Europe, like Whiskey Cavalier.

I'm shocked they didn't do a gender swap where Harry's movie daughter (Eliza Dushku) grows up and becomes a spy and it is her HUSBAND that assumes the Jamie Lee Curtis role.

I really like Whisky Cavalier and was sad to see it dropped.
They tried to shop it with no success and I was sad again.
True Lies was fun, but it sort of fizzles out starting when Jamie learns Arnold's secret.
From there on it become far to simplistic and pat.
It's still ok, but a stronger finish would have made it a great movie.
I hope the TV show is OK.
Very often a TV version of a movie, or a reboot of an old series changes so many things or enough to lack the essence of the original, that it's just not worth my time.
The goes beyond a simple gender/race change.
I prefer that not done so as to be as close to the original version that I liked.
But when the reboot or TV adaptation bears little to no resemblance beyond the name, then I feel ripped off.
Watching The Equalizer, there were some weak points that I didn't care for, and predictably, the motorcycle bit was one.
But the fight stuff was better than I expected.
And I like the reality of once a bad guy was put down, hard, he/they didn't get back up.
If Latifah gets her stride, then I'll be watching regularly, as it does have some of the Robert McCall feel.
The one big trope that bugs me in this show the Super Computer-Guy Nerd.
Able to hack into corporation computers with a single key-stroke, no crime gets solved without one.
I like seeing Christopher Noth working.

Definitely. It's in my top 10 most favorite movies. Tom Arnold is actually funny in it. But, I doubt seriously that I'll watch the TV show.

I would DEFINITELY watch if it was Eliza Dushku reprising her character, and her husband was the one in the dark about the "Family Business"... and Arnie and Jamie Lee did a little guest shot for the pilot.
I don't hold out much hope they won't tie it to a shoe-string budget, and try to make it "woke", and screw it up completely...

Tom Arnold was the only good thing about the original, so I doubt I'd watch this one!
