Safari new tab: is the cursor in the URL bar by default to not? - space-time - 02-17-2021

I noticed that when I open a new tab in Safari, I have to click in the URL bar to go to a new web site or start a search.

I swear that a few days/weeks ago the click was necessary. When I opened a new tab, I could start typing immediately, and it would show up in the URL bar. Now I have to click to put the cursor there. What happened?

Thanks

Dunno but cmd-L your way into the bar. It’s quick.

Right now, I'm in Sierra, and Cmd-T puts the cursor in the URL window.

Cmd-N does the same.

But I seem to recall that launching Safari doesn't.

I'll have to check.

I don't know. I'm using the latest Safari and macOS and when I open a new tab, the cursor is sitting in the address/search field ready for input.

Well, launching Safari puts the cursor in the URL window, which is my preference.

But I'm buggin' a little on a vague memory that somehow, I have to put it there in a new Safari window.

Hm.

Works for me, on launch and with new tab.
