anyone actually sell or buy from ebay motors? - robfilms - 01-03-2007

i have a 1989 peugout 505 stationwagon. please do not snicker. this is my 5th peugout 505 stationwagon. i have found them to be the best handling, best balanced stationwagon i have ever driven. i live in the northeast where the peugout import distribution was located. though peugouts started importing cars into the usa in the early 1960s, they ended that relationship in 1991. few folks wanted a peugout before 1991, no one wanted one after 1991. no one except me. which i why i could afford to buy a $25k when mercedes were selling for that price and i was only spending nickels to dollars. i would get a peug with 50k miles take it up to 125k and then get another 50k car. i have been doing this since 1990. i lived in an area where there was actually four peugout dealers in a 20 mile radius. one by one they moved onto other brands. and just last month, my favorite mechanic said he was retiring. sadly, this is my last peugout.

ebay motors sells a peugout in my area approx once a month. i'm not expecting much. in fact, i'm hoping someone who knows peugouts would appreciate my current wagon, 82k miles, no trouble passing inspection, 4 very good performance tires, 4 blizzack snow tires on steel wheels, 18mpg/city - 23mpg/hiway. this peug is great and i rather not drive her to a junkyard.

so, i'm looking for real world ebay motor experiences. have u bought? have u sold? care to share your tale?

thanks in advance to those who have some thoughts to offer.

and thank u to those who did not snicker when i mentioned that i proudly own a peugout!

be well

Bought once through eBay. The car was a lease return sold by a broker for lending institutions. Actually picked up the vehicle at the regional car auction (about 45 min away) Pretty risky because this venue didn't allow pre-inspection, so my decision was based soley on pictures and description.
BAD: vehicle didn't match description--options missing or listed wrong.
GOOD: extremely well maintained vehicle bought at about 55% of the retail used car price at the time.

Turned out OK, but I would only do it again if the vehicle was local with full inspection before auction close--and probably only something I couldn't find somewhere else.

Isn't Peugout owned by Fiat or Citroen now?

I bought my 87' Toyota Cressida station wagon on ebay about 3 years ago. I made sure to test drive it BEFORE bidding, but it was a great experience.

Located my current vehicle ('99 Nissan Pathfinder) via eBay motors.

Didn't actually complete the deal via eBay (dealer ended the auction and put it on hold for me until my sister in that city (in Arizona, I'm in far-north California) went to the dealership and gave it the once-over.

Worked out very well...
Locally, same model, miles, and make would have been $14,000.
I got mine for $8000.

I would have been less comfortable had I not had someone to take a look in person, but for a savings of $6K, it would be worth it.

Rain mentioned in his thread about his van he uses for gigs, that he has purchased from ebay motors.

I bought one car and sold one car on ebay. The one I bought was an old Camaro that I used for parts, so I wasn't really concerned about it running or being anything more than what the pictures showed. I paid less than $200 for that one. I sold a Nissan Altima for $700 that needed a lot of work. Guy from Chicago came up and bought it. He actually drove it home, no idea if he made it all the way or not.

I bought an '03 PT Cruiser from eBay a little less than a year ago. It was a local car and I saw it before I bid on it.

I got a decent price but there were some issues with it that negated most of the price advantage so I ended up satisfied but not thrilled. The description was a little off, not misleadingly so but a bit inaccurate, and the previous owner, who was not the seller, had not taken particularly good care of the car.

I would never buy an eBay car sight unseen. I would be very careful buying from a car dealer who moves a lot of stuff on eBay--that's a high volume game for him, and as a low-volume buyer you have to question/verify every single thing you see or read that you think is important.

my brother has purchased 3 vehicles on ebay. an older jeep that he flew up to nj and drove back. an older mercedes that the owner one state over trucked over to him. and a late model mercedes bought for a friend skittish about navigating ebay on here own.

all were as described and he had no problems with the transactions.

thanks all for your thoughts.

in this situation i'm more interested in selling the peugout on ebay motors than buying it its replacement.

it seems like folks are mostly pleased which i imagine most folks would say about any car buying experience.

i'm glad that ebay motors doesn;t seem to have a reputation for being a rip-off. i'm not looking to rip-off or deceive or make claims that cannot possibly be fulfiled by a 1989 peugout 505 dl stationwagon.

i'm just trying to find a home for a vehicle that always started no matter the weather, never left me stranded and always got me and my family back home safe and sound.

i just shot some pix of the car. i guess the next step is to think about listing the peug.
