Suffolk University/USA TODAY Poll of Trump voters - Ted King - 02-22-2021 Probably most here have seen the polls that show a majority (usually well over 50%) of Trump voters would vote for Trump even if he left the Republican Party (which means those Republicans who don't support him would have to be the one's leaving, not Trump). But this poll has some other questions I think are revealing about Trump voters: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2021/02/21/exclusive-trump-party-he-still-holds-loyalty-gop-voters/6765406002/ Trump voters are prepared to punish those who crossed him. Eight in 10 say they would be less likely to vote for a Republican candidate who supported Trump's impeachment, as 10 representatives did in the House. An equal portion, 80%, say the seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump were motivated by political calculations, not their consciences. Think there's a connection? Re: Suffolk University/USA TODAY Poll of Trump voters - Ted King - 02-22-2021 lost in space wrote: It can be tricky to ferret out cause and effect when other significant factors also play a role. For example, I think a big part of what drives the thinking of a lot of Trump voters is white culture (especially Christian) tribalism where the tribe is aggrieved and angry and inclined to rally around a strong-man for the tribe. Perturbed reactionaries with Trump as the strong man. But it is interesting that they chose a con-man for their strong man. That might have something to do with a con-man that is adept at attuning himself to the sentiments of the tribe, but it's not a stretch to think that having a more difficult time dealing with complex tasks might potentially have something noteworthy to do with them falling for the con. Duh, sorry. I should have just posted the OP in that thread. |
