How to accesss that Option Library when not booting from that drive? - Microman - 07-17-2021 OK, you know I removed an SSD from daughters computer. I also have it in an external case (Thanks OWC). When a computer is normally booted and you want access to that "hidden" library, you go to the finder, and pull down the GO and hit the "Option Key" and you will see a Library that is not the library you see by going thru the folders. Is there a way of seeing this Library when it is not the boot disk, and it is mounted externally? Also, I know iTunes use to categorize music easily by artist name, and song. Now it seems that Music app categorizes music as a RANDOM #/Letters, in folders labeled 0, 1, 2, 3 etc... Is the Music In the Music app hidden in the "Hidden Library"? And how do I get there? on the external drive that is not booted? Re: How to accesss that Option Library when not booting from that drive? - modelamac - 07-17-2021 Microman, Select that drive in the Finder. Then use the key combo " Shift Cmd period " to expose hidden files. That will expose the User Library on that drive. The same key combo will hide it again. Re: How to accesss that Option Library when not booting from that drive? - Microman - 07-17-2021 Hey Modelamac, I did that and I can see a lot more files, but they appeared grayed out.. And I wonder if those are the same 4 files that I see when I open the External HD.... so those are hidden, but maybe the same Library ![]() I see more files (although grayed out) when I choose users, and my daughters name.... There is another Library there, but it is one of the grayed out ones. as well. Wonder how I can get it to open up. I am sure I can find the password, just not sure how to dig in further. With a combination of the "ditto" command, to copy files from Folder to Folder on another drive, I have been able to save a lot of her teaching lessons, and pictures. Now I have gotten to the point where I want to dig a little further. As I have copied all that I can off of what mounts..and what I can see. I try to change permissions or ownership, I enter my PW , and change to read and write, but it says I don't have PERMISSION. Remember its the daughters HD, which I could get PW |
