Is no one disappointed? - samintx - 08-27-2021

In the Biden administration over the no plan evacuation and the killing of our soldiers? Are there not questions in your mind? This would all be expected under 45 but I expected more from Biden. Guess I’m a malcontent but after such a good start, I’m going to have to sit back and just watch.

Biden has a lot on his plate: troop withdrawal, floods, fires, legislation, mid terms, refugee resettlement, what August 31 holds and after.

45's administration gutted many of the best people in government.

I think Biden has been doing a great job with the teams he had in place, and the changing times he's having to deal with.

He knew Afghanistan was going to be a mess. What he didn't know what that 45 had literally set up the Taliban to take over when 45 did his 'peace talks.'

Bottom line: I'm a realist. For me, the real test of Biden has been his legislative agenda. If he gets both the bipartisan infrastructure passed, AND the Dem budget passed - the only missing piece is a new voting rights law.

I think the deadline August 31st was decided long ago by the previous president. Biden should have started the evaluation on Jan 20th at 12:01 PM

I'm disappointed that the evacuation wasn't handled better, but not with Biden.

He inherited two tons of BS in a one ton sack.

45* had four years to plan for evacuation, instead he said 'I'm bring our boys home' and left it to be done out by somebody else.

And he actively disassembled the resources for issuing SIVs, deliberately slowing the process.

Did Biden pick an Out By date that didn't give him enough time, or was the date picked for him, I'm unaware.

So I don't know what missteps Biden may have made here, if any.

This.

I’m saddened, but not surprised. Afghanistan was a pressure pot, even after 20 years. Whoever took the lid off was going to get burned.

Am I disappointed in the Biden administration? I’d have to understand what they did wrong, first.

Criticism is largely from political opponents who have now sided with the Taliban: See who’s blaming the U.S. for the ISIS-K attack, Taliban and Republicans.

You can spend your days internalizing blame when someone blames you, or you can see if the claims are credible and by extension, if the claimants are credible. If you can’t do that, every time something looks bad you’ll think that immediate blame is deserved.

People without credibility can still be correct, but they forfeited their debate by default.

Meanwhile we’ll wait until the identity of the “true plan” that should have been followed emerges. But “I don’t know” an entirely unhelpful response when asked the question (again and again) “What exactly was supposed to happen, and how?”

I’ve even read opinions stating Biden should have planned for chaos. Planning for the unknown? I’d like to visit that Fantasyland someday, but I’m kinda busy at the moment.

The muddled news coverage isn't helping
in finding out what has happened the past 3 weeks

I am also very disappointed. Biden had 2 years to figure out how to get out as safely as possible. I suspect he was the victim of horribly inept intelligence. I think I read somewhere that he was told it would be more than a year before the Taliban could take control of the country. Things sure went to hell in a hand basket quickly.

No other organization in the world plans or does logistics better than the US military.

I'm humbled and amazed by those courageous soldiers at Kabul airport. They are putting their own lives at risk from violent medieval mofos in order to save other people's lives. Most of us never do anything remotely that brave, or significant.

I'm confused by this. Biden has been in office for just seven months. Are you suggesting he should have started planning for a withdrawal from Afghanistan eighteen months before taking office? More than a year before being elected? Before having been selected as his party's nominee, even?
