LOL, Nikon begins teaser campaign for $7k cam as though it is a mass market item - pRICE cUBE - 10-07-2021

Check out the Nikon Z9 YouTube video in the link. It is brief and really doesn’t do anything other cameras can’t do. I have to chuckle at this ad campaign. Seriously, anyone interested in what will likely be a $7k camera don’t really need convincing through artsy teaser ad campaigns. Nikon, stop with the silly ads and get this thing to market before people switch from your platform.

Chicken feed for a working pro using a nice advertising budget, which to me is kinda what the video depicts.

I would not underestimate the power of a little popular buzz, even if seemingly misplaced. There's a lot of messaging competing for our attention, including the attention of consummate professionals of MRF.

I can appreciate buzz for a product but in this case, but Nikon is severely behind the competition. While the Z system is great for most people, the power and perception of not having a top end flagship that kicks butt and takes names is hurting Nikon platform perception wise. Nikon needs to declare loudly now that they have a camera to take on the competition before people jump ship. I would like Nikon to stay viable and not have to switch but I am certainly open to augmenting my platforms if Nikon is slow poking around.

1. No sports/action shooting MILC
2. No 400 2.8 or 600 f/4 for MILC
3. Nice MILC cameras with no wow factor

I like their Z cameras and I would definitely buy this bad boy. BUT, I think there'll be a Z8, which would be the D850 equivalent. A more manageable situation.

How many megapixels?

That’s part of the tease. Meanwhile Sony has been selling the A1 50mp was launched in January 2021 and Canon R3 24mp released last month. In the past Nikon could mess round and not rush too much because Sony wasn’t that serious. Now Nikon is behind two competitors and have the perception for some people that they can’t keep up. This will result in lost sales and platform switching.

The Nikon Z cameras are very nice and works for most people.

A Z8 would be interesting as a high megapixel camera. The big question is about me on this Z9. Will they chase Sony with a 45-50mp chip or 24mp like Canon. Would a theoretical Z8 would need to be more than 45-50mp to have a market segment to sell to. Maybe Nikon would use the 61mp chip in the Sony A7R 4.
