Anyone know how to read kernel panic reports? Here's mine - tuqqer - 10-07-2021 Been trying to troubleshoot my wife's MBA (MacBookAir9,1) 13" Intel for the last couple weeks. She's getting kernel panic complete shutdowns multiple times a day. If anyone knows how to translate these crash reports, I'd love any insights you may have. Some details: - 256HD, 8G RAM - Purchased new from Apple 18 months ago - No odd 3rd party software installed (just a few standards, like Dropbox, Office 2019, 1Password) - I've run Disk Utility from startup Recovery (Command-R at startup) - I've reset both NVRAM and SMC - 40G free storage (filled up 210, including the "purgeable" amt of 100GB) - have run Malwarebytes and Onyx, just for kicks. Nothing weird. - normally has external monitor and USB hub attached, which I thought might be the issue, but I ran the MBA this morning for a few hours without any plugins, and it did 2 kernel panics while attached to nothing except the original Apple charger. I'm now in the process of reinstalling Big Sur from the Recovery method. Another hour to go on that. ------- Report: Machine-check capabilities: 0x0000000000000c09 family: 6 model: 126 stepping: 5 microcode: 166 signature: 0x706e5 Intel® Core i3-1000NG4 CPU @ 1.10GHz 9 error-reporting banks Processor 2: IA32_MCG_STATUS: 0x0000000000000005 IA32_MC0_STATUS(0x401): 0xf200020000010005 mp_kdp_enter() timed-out on cpu 2, NMI-ing mp_kdp_enter() NMI pending on cpus: 0 1 3 mp_kdp_enter() timed-out during locked wait after NMI;expected 4 acks but received 1 after 7518235 loops in 556800000 ticks panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff800abc55c9): "Machine Check at 0x00007fff2050df3b, registers:\n" "CR0: 0x0000000080010033, CR2: 0x000000010abdf020, CR3: 0x000000012a357084, CR4: 0x00000000003626e0\n" "RAX: 0x00007fff3071be4c, RBX: 0x0000000000000004, RCX: 0x0000000000000004, RDX: 0x0000000000000000\n" "RSP: 0x00007ffee27035e0, RBP: 0x00007ffee2703b00, RSI: 0x0000000000000600, RDI: 0x0000000000000004\n" "R8: 0x0000000000000016, R9: 0x0000000000000000, R10: 0x0000000000000010, R11: 0x0000000000000000\n" "R12: 0x0000000000000000, R13: 0x000000000000006e, R14: 0x000000000000002c, R15: 0x0000000000000015\n" "RFL: 0x0000000000000202, RIP: 0x00007fff2050df3b, CS: 0x000000000000002b, SS: 0x0000000000000023\n" "Error code: 0x0000000000000000\n"@/System/Volumes/Data/SWE/macOS/BuildRoots/38cf1d983f/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/xnu/xnu-7195.141.6/osfmk/i386/trap_native.c:168 Backtrace (CPU 2), Frame : Return Address 0xffffffb0872dbba0 : 0xffffff800aa8cfdd 0xffffffb0872dbbf0 : 0xffffff800abd3fd3 0xffffffb0872dbc30 : 0xffffff800abc45ca 0xffffffb0872dbc80 : 0xffffff800aa31a2f 0xffffffb0872dbca0 : 0xffffff800aa8c7fd 0xffffffb0872dbdc0 : 0xffffff800aa8caf3 0xffffffb0872dbe30 : 0xffffff800b29cdca 0xffffffb0872dbea0 : 0xffffff800abc55c9 0xffffffb0872dbf90 : 0xffffff800b2a0b6e 0xffffffb0872dbfa0 : 0xffffff800aa3228f Process name corresponding to current thread: Mail Boot args: chunklist-security-epoch=0 -chunklist-no-rev2-dev Mac OS version: 20G165 Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 20.6.0: Mon Aug 30 06:12:21 PDT 2021; Especially working on it over the last week, I kept thinking, did all my former Intel machines really run THIS SLOW ???? Very cool info on Mail. She's not one to clean Mail things up much (I've tried teaching her), so this could be the lesson that gets her to start keeping a lighter bunch of mail. thanks all. Re: Anyone know how to read kernel panic reports? Here's mine - jdc - 10-07-2021 FWIW, my mail takes up about 175 GB, and runs smooth as a top, without any maintenance. I never toss client emails out. I have 50 GB of sent emails, and the other 125 is split between another dozen or so mboxes. my client ones range from 10-25 GB. Some send me attachments galore. Re: Anyone know how to read kernel panic reports? Here's mine - Grateful11 - 10-07-2021 I'm still running Sierra on a 2010 iMac and Mail runs stable. Three email accounts with about 300,000-400,000 emails in it that needs to be gone through. Re: Anyone know how to read kernel panic reports? Here's mine - tuqqer - 10-07-2021 Could just be a software glitch then, that the reinstall may fix. I'll post back the results. Re: Anyone know how to read kernel panic reports?
