And another thing..! - RAMd®d - 11-29-2021 I placed an order with Wally, which I try hard not to do, but : ![]() But in the order process, Wally demanded my mobile number and wouldn't let me order without it. I tried to avoid it and thought I did, but then checked out with Apple Pay which did auto complete, quickly and easily, and the order went through. Yay! But now I'm thinking that may have screwed up big time. Apple Pay may have put my cellphone number in the field, and if Wally has it, it could end up out in the wild. Offers from them and their trusted affiliates. IF that happens, I bet there's no way to fully combat it. There may be infinite number to block. The life of a boomer in a millennial world. Re: And another thing..! - Paul F. - 11-29-2021 I keep a Google Voice number for just such an emergency... I will NOT give my cell number to companies I don't trust with it... and the number whom I DO trust is pretty small! Re: And another thing..! - Gareth - 11-29-2021 Paul F. wrote: Ditto. But we weirdly got a notice from the property manager that a package had arrived at her rental unit. Didn't know what it was, so I stopped by a week later when I was in the area to pick it up. Turned out it was the perishable food order. ApplePay had replaced all the billing and shipping info she had already entered when she selected ApplePay for payment. Still don't know why ApplePay had her old address on file (as in 2+ years). We salvaged what we could, but had to throw most of it out. I always turned down offers were my cellphone number is required. Safeway had a great deal on Dr. Pepper 12-packs via their app. No big deal, downloaded and anxious to order until I saw my mobile number was required. Hard pass. I just checked my Wally account info and apparently there's no number stored for me. Now, about Google Voice... I really distrust Google as much as others distrust Alexa (and maybe Google). Does the number they supply pass for a cellphone number, since my home number (which I screen) does not? I have to pull out my phone and check the app every time! Re: And another thing..! - kurtzie - 11-29-2021 Gareth wrote: Ditto. RAMd®d wrote: Yea, I'm not a fan of Apple Pay for online orders. Tied to your Apple ID shipping address. I learned this pre-Covid when I wanted an order shipped to my work. Nope, only the shipping address associated with your Apple ID. Hap to cancel the order and reorder using a regular CC. Steve |
