Any way to attach Apple USB SuperDrive to iPad to play movies ? ? ? - Buzz - 02-01-2022 Can we use a USB to lightning adapter to attach an Apple USB SuperDrive⢠to play DVD's on an iPad? Does an iPad have enough juice to power the SuperDrive? The twin cMP towers are temporarily out of commission, so it's not convenient to rip content, plus desired iPad is bottom of the line 9.7" gen 5/6, so not much space to store content. Spousal unit has an industry source for new/recent movies and wants to binge. Kid has 2018 MBP, so if he'll let her borrow it, they'll need a USB A to USB C adapter? Any other ideas? Thanks. == Re: Any way to attach Apple USB SuperDrive to iPad to play movies ? ? ? - Lew Zealand - 02-01-2022 I am pretty sure there is no iOS app which knows what to do with a DVD drive. Strike that. I'm pretty sure iOS doesn't know what to do with a DVD drive. Re: Any way to attach Apple USB SuperDrive to iPad to play movies ? ? ? - clay - 02-01-2022 just rip the dvd on another device with handbrake and send the file to your iPad for playback. Re: Any way to attach Apple USB SuperDrive to iPad to play movies ? ? ? - jdc - 02-01-2022 Does your TV provider offer streaming? DTV offers streaming anywhere, no data cap. Sure, prob a limited library, but not knowing your end goal... Re: Any way to attach Apple USB SuperDrive to iPad to play movies ? ? ? - Gareth - 02-01-2022 Is watching them on the iPad a need/priority? Why not just get a real DVD player and hook it up to a TV? They can't be that much at Goodwill or similar. Even new Blu-ray players are less than a $100 (which is what I had a friend buy who also gets industry screeners, just in case any of them actually show up on Blu-ray). Re: Any way to attach Apple USB SuperDrive to iPad to play movies ? ? ? - Gareth - 02-01-2022 Another (not so great solution) if iPad viewing really is a requirement, but still requires purchasing some hardware. Apparently, there were devices that would stream DVD content wirelessly to an iPad. Long gone now, but here's one: Samsung Optical SmartHub Wi-Fi SE-208BW At $89 for nearly 10 year old tech, I doubt I'd take the risk, since who knows if would still work with so much newer hardware/software. Re: Any way to attach Apple USB SuperDrive to iPad to play movies ? ? ? - macphanatic - 02-01-2022 I doubt that the lightning connector will provide enough power for the drive. Re: Any way to attach Apple USB SuperDrive to iPad to play movies ? ? ? - Buzz - 02-01-2022 End goal, need/priority.... = spousal unit's instant gratification. She scores DVD(s), and wants to watch when she wants to watch. Best ripping machines are cMP 5,1 twin towers, but they're both out of action for time being. No laptops w/ readily available optical drive. Do have a bunch of external FW/USB DVD RW's.... is there an adapter that will connect nicely to a TV? But then there's no way to control playback? Getting the kid to loan her his 2018 MBP, or maybe dust off the dead batteried 2011 13" MBA and use the Apple USB SuperDrive w/ one of those.... hmmmm..... or mask her up and send her to the movie theaters..... Not! == Re: Any way to attach Apple USB SuperDrive to iPad to play movies ? ? ? - Gareth - 02-01-2022 Regular DVD players are $35 at Best Buy. Open Box from $21 (if available near you). Seems like you'd save yourself a lot of hassle if you just bought one of those. Maybe $10 at Goodwill? You can even get a "portable" DVD player with 10"+ screen for $100 or so. |
