Daft question about A13 bionic in the new Apple Studio Display... - gabester - 03-08-2022

The A13 bionic chip inside the new Apple Studio Display is there to... manage the pixels? And connected devices like the camera and speakers?

That seems like... overkill? Is there some secret sauce here that Apple could unveil? Like, can I connect a drive to the display and have it present a slideshow of images or play movies or music with no additional connected computer?

Presumably despite having an A13 built into the display it's not running iOS (or at least not a consumer-friendly version that you can interface with.)

Does it support Airplay 2?

It looks like not only does it not do anything end-user facing with that CPU, but that it also requires macOS Monterey 12.3 or iPadOS 15.4 to use it...

It sounded to me like the A13 was there to run "Center Stage" on the web cam (following the subject(s) on camera).

Seems like it would need some sort of internet connection which it lacks.

If it did, seems like it could be an actual Apple TV, just add a remote control, and a flash drive for storage.

Id say this and spatial audio from the speakers.

Yes, the chip is there for Center Stage, spatial audio, and Siri.
