Spoiler alert Picard - wowzer - 04-19-2022 What a great series so far. I’m so glad to watch new Trek from our universe. Can’t wait for Strange New Worlds to drop, Re: Spoiler alert Picard - NewtonMP2100 - 04-19-2022 ......but isn't he......
a doppelganger.....???
Re: Spoiler alert Picard - PeterB - 04-19-2022 I still have very mixed feelings about this show, but I'm currently leaning in the "it's terrible" direction. Amongst other things,
Whose bright idea was it to bring the Borg Queen back in time to 2024 Earth. The whole point of the "First Contact" movie was to PREVENT this kind of thing from happening. And then suddenly the characters behave as if this weren't a foreseeable possibility. (And it's not as if they specifically needed a Borg Queen to do the temporal calculations, any Vulcan could have done it... in fact Seven probably could have.) They've also completely changed the rules regarding assimilation, in a way that makes ZERO sense. And they've added a backstory to Picard that again makes no sense and isn't consistent with what we'd seen before. The whole thing just reeks of truly bad writing.
Re: Spoiler alert Picard - Forrest - 04-20-2022 Picard is one of my favorite shows. Looking forward to Strange NewWorlds also. Re: Spoiler alert Picard - Rolando - 04-20-2022 If you like that show, I wish you well. It is complete and utter fecal matter cashing in on the Star Trek name. Re: Spoiler alert Picard - Tiangou - 04-20-2022 Rolando wrote: I think that WB (Harry Potter), Sony (Spider-Man) and Paramount (Star Trek) are throwing everything at the wall to try and make a cinematic and TV universe/multiverse to compete with Disney/Marvel and catching eyeballs is the only goal, not quality. There's enough diversity among the creators that through sheer statistical fluke they occasionally come up with something half-decent, but most of it is just garbage. I have some hope for Strange New Worlds in that the creators are at least giving lip-service to faithfulness to the source and pledging that it will be a return to episodic Trek. In theory, going episodic will free them from the burden of ever-growing stakes that seem to always draw Trek writers into last-second Deus ex machina and Treknobabble wrap-ups. Joss Whedon was good at coming up with compelling stories/characters to match a succession of end-of-the world/universe-stakes stories. Trek writers do not seem up to that task. |
