iPhone Battery Problems: Advice, Please - steveroberts - 04-20-2022 I have an iPhone SE purchased new about four years ago. Lately, the battery is intermittently giving me trouble. Sometimes won't charge, sometimes dropping a lot on the percentage meter in a short period of time. I'm wondering if it's time for a new battery. And, if so, is replacement something I can do myself? Thanks for any advice on dealing with this issue. SR Re: iPhone Battery Problems: Advice, Please - gadje - 04-20-2022 https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2021/11/apple-announces-self-service-repair/ i am not sure if they started this program. When they do, you may be able to DIY. EDIT: I missed the fact it was purchased 4 years ago, so this is the 2016 model, not the 2020. Even the repair program mentions iPhone 12 and 13, I would be surprised if they expand it to cover iPhone SE. I have several iPhone SEs with that issue, my son carries an external battery pack at school. You can probably get it replaced by Apple for $49 or maybe $79, not sure what it costs now. Re: iPhone Battery Problems: Advice, Please - Speedy - 04-20-2022 Take it to the kiosk in the mall. Quick, easy, cheap. Pick two. Re: iPhone Battery Problems: Advice, Please - jdc - 04-20-2022 what does the battery health say? wont charge... Are you getting good connection with the lighting port? is it clean? clean it out? don't DIY. Re: iPhone Battery Problems: Advice, Please - RAMd®d - 04-20-2022 Four years is a good run for a 'Phone battery, I got five out of mine. Have you checked Battery Health in Settings? (Ooops, didn't see jdc's post) If it's at 85% or less, you should be considering a new battery. At that point odd things start to happen, including very short talk time, and very quick charging to 100%. I would not go to a kiosk for battery replacement. For $50, it's worth taking it to Apple. Less chance of a screw up, and more recourse should something go wrong. Re: iPhone Battery Problems: Advice, Please - btfc - 04-20-2022 “For $50, it's worth taking it to Apple. Less chance of a screw up, and more recourse should something go wrong.” My position also. My iPhone Xs battery will need to be replaced in the near future; after a local place screwed up my SE, I’m absolutely going with Apple this time. Re: iPhone Battery Problems: Advice, Please - steveroberts - 04-20-2022 Thanks for the replies and suggestions. Battery health maximum capacity is 82% "Battery is currently supporting normal peak performance. Optimized Battery Charging is "on." Re: iPhone Battery Problems: Advice, Please - RAMd®d - 04-20-2022 Battery health maximum capacity is 82% It's all rushing back to me like the hot kiss at the end of a wet fist. It's 80% Battery Health at which Apple suggests getting a new battery. My 5s was at 82% when the charge rate started dropping very quickly from 100% to 50-40% and would frequently go straight to dead without giving me the 20% Low Battery warning. On the upside, it charged to 100% very quickly, because of the low battery (82%) capacity/health. Charge, die, repeat. |
