have you been served?!.....Apple discontinues 'macOS Server'..... - NewtonMP2100 - 04-21-2022 .....today.... Apple Discontinues macOS Server ....Apple today announced in a support document that macOS Server is being discontinued as of April 21, 2022. Apple has been phasing out macOS Server for several years now, and the company is finally ready to shut it down for good. macOS Server 5.12.2 will be the last version of the app, and macOS Server services have now been migrated to macOS. Popular macOS Server capabilities that include Caching Server, File Sharing Server, and Time Machine Server have been bundled in macOS since macOS High Sierra, so there is no longer a need for a standalone app. Existing macOS Server users can continue to download and use the app with macOS Monterey, and Apple has support documents for migrating from Profile Manager to other MDM solutions. serv.....ice.......outage......?! Re: have you been served?!.....Apple discontinues 'macOS Server'..... - Paul F. - 04-21-2022 It's been "dead" for close to 10 years now. They removed all the useful services from it a long, long time ago. I'm still running a copy of 10.6.8 Server on an Intel XServe as a DHCP, DNS and (very light duty) Web server. Just haven't gotten around to migrating those services to another platform yet. Re: have you been served?!.....Apple discontinues 'macOS Server'..... - davemchine - 04-21-2022 I had one of those xserves for awhile. It was so LOUD and not particularly fast. I don't remember where it went but I think it was essentially a give away in the end. So disappointing for what could have been a great product with a great software bundle. Re: have you been served?!.....Apple discontinues 'macOS Server'..... - C(-)ris - 04-21-2022 It has been useless for years. Didn't realize it even still existed. Re: have you been served?!.....Apple discontinues 'macOS Server'..... - Tiangou - 04-22-2022 Was still useful as a GUI for managing LDAP/AD file-sharing users. |
