Boy, the Ukrainians seem to be kickin ass lately… - pdq - 09-12-2022

AP:

Ukrainian troops reclaimed more territory from Russia on Monday, pushing all the way back to the northeastern border [with Russia] in some places as part of a lightning advance that forced Moscow to make a hasty retreat from occupied land.

…and the grumbling is getting louder:

Ramzan Kadyrov, the Moscow-backed leader of the Russian region of Chechnya, publicly criticized the Russian Defense Ministry for what he called “mistakes” that made the Ukrainian blitz possible.

Even more notable, such criticism seeped onto state-controlled Russian TV.

“People who convinced President Putin that the operation will be fast and effective ... these people really set up all of us,” Boris Nadezhdin, a former parliament member, said on a talk show on NTV television. “We’re now at the point where we have to understand that it’s absolutely impossible to defeat Ukraine using these resources and colonial war methods.”

All warn that this could drag on much longer, but at present, the momentum seems to have shifted away from Vlad’s grand adventure “limited military action”.

I hope their gains are stable.

I hope the Russians are defeated and Ukraine takes back Crimea.
Putin deserves public humiliation.

The problem becomes when Ukraine STOPS at the Russian borders. And they will. They have no desire to start a land war in Russia in winter.

Will Russia back away and rearm and strengthen their military like they did in WWII ? Putin's demagogues are certainly pushing that idea.

The end game in this can ONLY end safely with another "White" revolution in Russia and the death of the despot and his vlasti. I fear we have entered a Korea situation with Ukrainian borders as the DMZ, and massive armed buildup in both countries across that border.

Ironically, today's Ukraine fighters are descendants of the WWII Soviet heroes who held the Nazis. That complicates Putin's call to fight like the Soviets did in WWII.

My concern is that a military desperate to impress Putin with swift retribution and progress will move on to super-conventional weapons that can take out a small city in one blast or even tactical nukes.

And another 18 deputy ministers have called for Putin to resign.

“We, the municipal deputies of Russia, believe that the actions of its president Vladimir Putin are detrimental to Russia’s and its citizens’ future. We demand Vladimir Putin's resignation from the post of the President of the Russian Federation,” said the petition posted by Ksenia Thorstrom, a local deputy of the Semenovsky District in Saint Petersburg.

The council of one Moscow district (Lomonosovsky) also demanded Putin's resignation, saying: "Your views and your model of government are hopelessly outdated and hinder the development of Russia and its human potential."
