I'm not so sure I like this idea. How many times have dems said, 'there's no way that kook can win a general election' and been wrong?
Democrats spend tens of millions amplifying far-right candidates in nine states
Democrats have spent nearly $19 million across eight states in primaries this year amplifying far-right Republican candidates who have questioned or denied the validity of the 2020 election, according to a Washington Post analysis, interfering in GOP contests to elevate rivals they see as easier to defeat in November, even as those candidates have promoted false or baseless claims.
The practice by some campaigns and outside groups this year has divided Democrats, with some in the party complaining that such tactics are risky and could ultimately result in the election of candidates who pose serious threats to democracy.
The approach often involves TV ads suggesting that a far-right GOP candidate is too conservative for a state or district and drawing attention to the candidate’s hard line views on abortion, guns and former president Donald Trump — messages that resonate with conservative primary voters. In other cases, Democrats have run ads attacking GOP candidates seen as tougher to defeat in general elections in ways that could erode support for them in Republican primaries.
Total Democratic spending rises to roughly $53 million when a ninth state, Illinois, is added. There, the Democratic Governors Association and the campaign of Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) spent a combined $34.5 million successfully elevating a GOP candidate who has said it was “appalling” that party leaders in Illinois wanted Trump to concede the 2020 election.
Some Democrats explain their actions by saying they are simply getting a jump on attacking Republican candidates for the general election, while others openly acknowledge trying to secure weaker competition in the fall. But there is little dispute about the effect of altering the Republican primaries in ways that could affect the November matchups.

I'm not sure I like it either. I guess we'll see in a couple months whether it was a wise strategy.

I think this has been discussed here before. I don't mind that the dems are doing this but its risky so they better get it right.

It's not exactly a new idea. The Republicans have gotten away with running sham candidates to try to divide the field and confuse a few voters. Considering how much secret money goes towards Republican candidacies, it is hard to know how much money has gone towards weak Democrats in primaries, but we know (and a lot of people are saying) that this goes on all the time.

It sort of looks good on paper, but it doesn't strike me as a good Plan A, B, or C.

I guess it's the 'Brilliant!' if it works and the 'WTF!' if it doesn't.
But really it's about the result.

Risky and part of me says it's dirty politics. A bigger part of me says it's about time the Dems took the gloves off and played as intensely as the other team.

Ted Cruz was a sham candidate, but Texas jiggered the election date enough times that he won. Hopefully not an issue with upcoming national elections.

Enough people aren't paying attention to what the semi-fascist side is selling and here we are. I think the dog catching the bus in the Roe decision woke a bunch of people up.
