Webb vs Hubble on the Pillers of Creation - Ombligo - 10-20-2022 The iconic 2014 Hubble image of the Pillers of Creation is on the left, the Webb telescope image of the same is on the right. The birthplace of stars is in the Eagle Nebula, about 6500 light-years away. ![]() Re: Webb vs Hubble on the Pillers of Creation - Acer - 10-20-2022 Hard to believe the Hubble image could be replaced with a photograph even more grand, but there it is. That said, I find them both to have their appeal. Re: Webb vs Hubble on the Pillers of Creation - TheCaber - 10-20-2022 IIRC, Hubble is visible light, so the dust clouds hide much of the stellar nursery. JWST uses infrared (IR) wavelengths and can 'see' through dust. Re: Webb vs Hubble on the Pillers of Creation - blooz - 10-20-2022 I always wonder how much different it would look in the sky if one lived on a planet in that area of space. Re: Webb vs Hubble on the Pillers of Creation - mrbigstuff - 10-20-2022 I imagine that there are more than three dimensions that we are seeing. Not impossible, but difficult. At any rate, the colors are very much remapped/exaggerated in order to increase the contrast and wavelengths emitted by various elements. It's mind boggling to contemplate. Re: Webb vs Hubble on the Pillers of Creation - Ombligo - 10-21-2022 pRICE cUBE wrote: so that occurred around 4500 B.C. What was a Friday night like then? Humans were learning how to use the plow. Copper and bronze metallurgy were being to be developed. 4,242 B.C. was the very first year on the Egyptian calendar. The wheel is invented circa 4000 B.C., when those images had already been on the way for 500 years (the difference between today and Hernan Cortes overthrowing the Aztecs). |
