Followup to Spectrum question - Don C - 10-20-2022 https://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,2780399 Two Spectrum guys came out and said that signals are not as strong as they should be so they replaced the splitter in the outside box with a signal enhancer device, replaced several connectors, and submitted a work request for the line guys to address problems at the alley. He did recommend replacing my Arris Surfboard 6141 cable modem with a newer one, even the same model, but just newer. He claims that cable modems decrease performance over time. Aging components and power-supplies impacted from heat and dust and corrosion will introduce noise, which degrades signal-quality. Power surges on the cable-line can accelerate the process, and will eventually kill the modem. (Fiber doesn't have this problem.) If you're considering a replacement, you might as well go for DOCSIS 3.1 to give yourself some future-proofing. Re: Followup to Spectrum question - NewtonMP2100 - 10-20-2022 ....the same can be said about Spectrum....its performance decreases over time..... They went from 100Mbps to 200, and now 300 for their base speed. Re: Followup to Spectrum question - N-OS X-tasy! - 10-21-2022 Spectrum has been my provider for going on nine years now and, other than the (very) occasional outage, I've never had a problem with them. As rz points out, they have raised throughput from 100 Mbps to 300 Mbps during that time period without raising the price. Re: Followup to Spectrum question - NewtonMP2100 - 10-21-2022 ....their intro rates used to be $44.99.....now $49.99......they raised internet for bottom tier by $10 (2 years ago)...... Re: Followup to Spectrum question - Ombligo - 10-21-2022 Been with Spectrum under one name or another since broadband came to my area. No complaints at all. Why not just use their router? They don't charge a monthly fee for it (at least not here) |
