Great story. But I must admit I smiled when I saw the whale described as beleaguered. It may be one of the only times I've seen that word used anywhere but this forum.

My buddy runs a whale watching ship in the Monterey bay.
The thing no one ever mentions is how much whales smell. They really, really, smell bad in normal conditions and then if they decide to poop by the boat yeah that is absolutely fantastic.
People running for the climate controlled passenger area, puking (even more) etc. It's great.

Sounds like my kind of thing. No, really. I’m not joking.
They can’t smell worse than dead sea turtles. And I was up to my elbows in preserved stomach contents back in those days. Formaldehyde lingers for a very long time. I quickly became “nose blind.”
