and in the 53 years since then we've now advanced to the point of being able to (someday soon) send a capsule to the moon with up to SIX astronauts in it!
Take THAT you primitive 1960s Engineers - you only sent three astronauts in your capsules!

The airplane was actually developed in west Dayton. They just had an odd test strip due to the prevailing winds. Then the development of controlled flight was done in east Dayton at the Huffman prairie, which can still be visited.

No, that "first flight" did NOT occur at Kitty Hawk. It occurred at nearby Kill Devil Hill. The telegraph office that sent out the news was at Kitty Hawk.
