Older versions of Quicken - Robert M - 12-18-2022 Hi everyone, I have someone who's been using Quicken 2007 and just upgraded to Monterey. Obviously, Quicken 2007 isn't going to work. So, he obtained a copy of Quicken 2017, the last non-subscription version of Quicken, with the hopes of moving to it. Unfortunately, he's come across a snag. Apparently, Quicken 2017 cannot convert Quicken 2007 data files. It needs to use the Quicken Online system to do it. And, unfortunately, the Quicken Online system no longer supports Quicken 2017. So, he tried exporting the data from Quicken 2007 as a .qif file, thinking Quicken 2017 would be able to import it. Nope. Quicken 2017 can't read the file because of a text encoding issue. Now, he wants to get his hands on a copy of Quicken 2015, with the hope they'll convert the file. Then he'll convert it into Quicken 2017 since it can open Quicken Quicken 2015 and Quicken 2016 data files. Supposedly. I told him he needs to either move to the newest flavor of Quicken, sign up for the online services, convert the file and call it done. Or, switch to a different non-subscription app like Moneydance, iBank or similar. For giggles, I actually opened the Quicken 2007 generated QIF file in Moneydance. It converted the data without an issue. I even exported the data from Moneydance into a QIF file, which Quicken 2017 was abel to access and convert, too. But, for safety's sake, he wants to stick with Quicken and use Quicken's own tools for the conversions. Anyone know where I can obtain Quicken 2015? That would be the next step in converting his data file from Quicken 2007 to a newer flavor. FWIW, he's got 25+ years of data stored in Quicken. He doesn't want to lose access to it. Robert Re: Older versions of Quicken - Buzz - 12-18-2022 I think some vendors have finally gotten their VM acts together, so you ought to be able to run an earlier Mac OS in a VM in Monterey (Ventura). I'm gonna try that exact Quicken 2007 in VM thing right after the new year. == Re: Older versions of Quicken - Robert M - 12-18-2022 Buzz, I'm doing that with Quicken 2007 in a Mojave installation in Parallels under Monterey on my '19 iMac. It works and works well. Key is that i'm doing it on an Intel machine. Been told that won't work on an M1 though I haven't actually tried it yet. For giggles, I might copy my virtual machine and try to run it under Parallels on m brother's Mac Studio. Robert Re: Older versions of Quicken - Buzz - 12-19-2022 Fusion 13 or Parallels 18? == Re: Older versions of Quicken - Microman - 12-19-2022 I subscribe to Quicken Mac. Just this month I bought a $30 +Tax CD version of Quicken Deluxe that included a CODE that was good for NEW and CURRENT users, and got my Subscription extended to Dec 2023. I also have data from as far back as 1993. Its interesting to see a cable bill of $19.95, compared to now. They keep improving it, and updating it. Their support has really improved as well. To me its one of the programs I am will to pay. Keeps Bill reminders. Sharedraft, Savings, IRA, Mortgages, Ameritrade, Lincoln Financial, Care Credit... Money Markets. Even keep track of my Homes values manually by entering Zillow Value. Oh and Vanguard. Currently using: Version 6.10.3 (Build 610.46328.100) Re: Older versions of Quicken - Robert M - 12-19-2022 Buzz, I'm using Parallels 17 on my '19 iMac. Non-subscription. Robert Re: Older versions of Quicken - Robert M - 12-19-2022 Micro, Good to know! I'm less concerned about a subscription than I am missing features. Quicken, while much improved since 2015, 2017, etc, is still missing features available in both Quicken 2007 and its Windows counterparts. One feature in particular is the reconciliation report. That's why I keep asking you if Quicken has finally included it in an update. So far, the answer is no. Rather unfortunate. Robert |
