Another "Why?" question - Why did they bury the sleep settings? - Drew - 02-20-2023

Just updated to Ventura. I had to do a major search for sleep settings. For the past however many number of years, I could just click on the battery level icon in the menu bar and adjust how many minutes before my Macbook goes to sleep on either battery or connected to power. Something that I need access to on a regular basis.

Lo and behold, there it is under Apple Menu - System Settings - scroll down to find Lock Screen - click on that and look for the options for sleep time. Click on more buttons to choose the time. ARGH!

Anyone have an idea of how to access that setting from the Menu bar or some other way to get there with an easy click or two?

There's a search bar at the top.

It's a royal PITA without the search.

It's just a peasant PITA with the search.

You mean at the top of System Settings? Yeah, found that. Would love to have some kind of dongle/button thing in the menu bar.

It couldn’t hurt to leave feedback to Apple about these very irritating changes to the MacOS, The more like iOS it gets, the less I want to use it. Ventura seems like a big step in the wrong direction, functionally and aesthetically.

And WTF is up with the recent security updates that leave you with mystery volumes on the desktop that look like external drives, named Update? It seems like a really clunky attempt at ensuring that their updates don’t hose the OS. I can’t find clear info on how to make them go away permanently.

What!? I thought Apple Support constantly monitored our esteemed forum. :-)

Yeah, good idea. Maybe some other complainers will note some possible solutions. Though wonder if Pock, talked about in the other thread, might work.

I don't think that's the macOS. It's probably 3rd party software.

In every case I've seen where the Update or BootX vols appear, antivirus software has mounted them to scan them.

Everything I have read suggests that it IS the Mac OS update process that is doing this. There is no antivirus software on my Macs. And for some reason, it didn't happen with earlier Big Sur updates, just the last couple, but maybe I was just lucky.
