Pull out shelf in cabinet? - davemchine - 02-25-2023 I have an all-in-one printer inside a cabinet and it works well for me except the scanner is challenging to access. I'm wondering if I could convert the shelf to a pull out arrangement? Thoughts? The width is 25.25" and the depth is 22 7/8" ![]() ![]() Re: Pull out shelf in cabinet? - Forrest - 02-25-2023 That printer looks too heavy to sit on a pull-out shelf Re: Pull out shelf in cabinet? - PeterW - 02-25-2023 Probably need to trim some off the width of the shelf but these shelf slides should hold the printer easily - https://www.rockler.com/centerline-lifetime-series-757a-100-lb-full-extension-shelf-slides-drawer-slides Re: Pull out shelf in cabinet? - GGD - 02-25-2023 PeterW wrote: It looks like the door frame is narrower than the shelf so there probably a bunch of clearance issues to worry about in addition to the width that the slides take. I have no direct experience… Re: Pull out shelf in cabinet? - PeterW - 02-26-2023 Well that shelf didn’t grow in there so yeah, you’ll need to tilt it to get it out and back in. Re: Pull out shelf in cabinet? - Buzz - 02-26-2023 Our similar sized cabinet..... ![]() Inspiration, perhaps? There's plenty of pre-made and custom made similar shelf options to be had. Price ranges vary as others have linked above. I made another (semi-cheap) solution by carefully installing melamine clad cleats, above and below 3/4" thick shelves. They (obviously) can't extend as fully as an articulated slide solution, but fairly cheap and easy was the rule of the day on that plebeian style. == Re: Pull out shelf in cabinet? - lost in space - 02-26-2023 When I built my main workbench, I used drawer slides rated at 100 lbs. They've been great for six years now, knock on, well . . . . wood! Sides just tall enough to put slides on could be made to fit your current shelf like in Cary's post; it looks like there's enough clearance on either side of the printer. That's what I'd do. Re: Pull out shelf in cabinet? - datbeme - 02-26-2023 While bending down may be less convenient, I'd mount slides and some kind of full length pull-out shelf to the bottom of the cabinet (then move the shelf up and place the Synology and other items above it). That way you have the sturdier cabinet base to work with, and the shelf only has to be as wide as the printer, giving you plenty of clearance to pull it out. I don't have a specific recommendation, but this is the type of thing used for heavy mixers or even garbage can sliders. |
