'Greater Idaho' movement to absorb conservative rural counties from liberal Oregon gains momentum
Idaho legislature pushing bill to open talks about moving border between western states

I am NOT a regular reader of FoxNews, but once in a while I check them out. Today I went there to see if there is any commend about Rupert Murdoch acknowledged that Fox News hosts endorsed false stolen election claims and saw this article about Idaho discussing moving the border. WTF is wrong with these people?

So, absorb all the empty space that has no people or industry? Have they thought this through?

Maybe the populated part of Oregon should split itself into ten or so little states, so they can get balanced Senate representation.

Only if they take Portland.
To this day I have no idea of what is wrong with ALL the people in Portland. (right, left and just plain insane)

To do so would require agreement with the legislators in both Idaho and Oregon, plus the voters of both states, plus the US congress.

Not a chance of it getting all that.

If it were easy, then I'd say let Idaho take that bit of Oregon. Shift a bit of NE Wisconsin to the Michigan UP and a bit of the Florida panhandle to Alabama (at least as would have made a difference in 2016... since MI may be staying blue going forward and FL might have been captured red by DeSantis)... A bunch of former swing states never go red again and all but for a few thousand voters being moved under the new state borders... If it could be accomplished it would be an interesting way to undo some of the red state gerrymandering.

I do think a scheme to diminish the Senate power and house gerrymandering what I call the "double double" where you double the number of Senators for all states with population over 1 million and the number of representatives everywhere; the newly doubled reps however are statewide, no districts. (The existing reps would keep their districts... and it'd be problematic for larger states like TX and CA where you have dozens of reps to vote for...)

We are after all, the United States.
Why we still need state boundaries is the question, it's not like each state can make it's own law now is it? Why yes it is and those who control that lawmaking will fight to either the death or gerrymander to keep it so.

While we’re at it, Arizona wants to divert water from the midwest/Mississippi (the river, not the state) to water more population (and golf courses).

What could go wrong?

It does get pretty strange in places.

Eastern Oregon is a lot more like Idaho (ranching, agriculture, etc.) than the coast, so it's not really nonsense. The same is true of northern Idaho, which has a lot more in common with Washington state than southern Idaho, so I get that too, but as said, stuff like this has been going on all my life, and it doesn't happen. But it makes some sense.
