Personally, I'm not a fan of the decision. I think the vaccine can only help, not hurt.

This reflects an irresponsible refusal to grapple with the realities of epidemiology. The existence of vaccines and treatments is NOT a good reason to stop requiring vaccination. I am inclined to invoke RBG's warning about umbrellas and rainstorms.

Regardless of the blather about widespread protection and personal health responsibility, this still throws a significant number of people under the bus -- people who are immunocompromised, those who REALLY can't be vaccinated, etc, etc. The unvaccinated can still get sick, can spread the virus to the vaccinated, who may then carry their "mild" cases home to family members who are vulnerable to getting really sick.

EAST LANSING – Michigan State University is dropping a COVID-19 vaccine and booster mandate for students and staff a little more than a year after introducing the requirement at the height of the pandemic.

MSU officials announced Tuesday that students and staff will no longer be required to receive COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters in order to study and work at the East Lansing campus.

University Physician Michael Brown, in a communication, said MSU was dropping the mandates due to the “widespread protection” as more and more people have become vaccinated and as more treatment options are now more widely available.

“Thus, as the pandemic continues to shift from an acute public health crisis to a personal health responsibility, MSU no longer will require the COVID-19 vaccination for students, staff and faculty, effective today,” Brown said in the communication. “There still may be limited situations in which professional students and employees must be vaccinated due to the requirements of the hospitals and health care facilities where they work and study.”

Anyone who wants a vaccine, or booster is 100% free to get one. Right?

“MSU policy requires that all incoming freshmen and undergraduate transfer students complete a web-based immunization form reporting their immunization status, and updating it as it changes.

MSU strongly recommends, but does not require, that students are current for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended vaccines…

And some day, perhaps we can welcome back measles, mumps, whooping cough and polio with this same brave new infectious disease thinking of experts like Mr645.

Wrong. See Janit's post above about immunocompromised and/or the very rare instance of extreme vaccine allergy/reaction. See also the very young. See also the end of the pandemic emergency health declarations, access to affordable health care, vaccine makers plans to charge hundreds of dollars for SARS-CoV2 vaccines, people who deny evolution as scientific fact and serve as breeding grounds for the next highly transmissible variant that evades current immune protections and does not respond to current treatments...

I know I need to go on but it's honestly exhausting dealing with people who want to stir conflict for the sake of their own petty egos.

So due to a very rare condition some people have, everyone else has to get vaccinated, got it.
Some people are very allergic to peanuts, ban those
Eggs, cats? The two can cause deadly reactions in some people, rare but can happen.
Round up all of the cats, because if one gets out and jumps on that rare individual that has a severe allergy to cats, they could die.

guess those vaccines are not as safe as the government told us, some people can have deadly reactions to them. One way to find out...
