SNAP households that also receive Social Security benefits may see a decrease in their SNAP benefits beginning January 2023 because of their higher Social Security benefit.

This is what keeps people in poverty. Income increases offset by support decreases. Net zero.

One step forward, two steps back. But the financial disaster on the horizon will make this hiccup in support pale in comparison. When Jane and John Q Public are paying $25 for a dozen eggs and $5000 a month for rent in another year or so, we'll be calling today the Great American Days! Because they won't be getting any additional support.

It's practically guaranteed to get quite ugly.

Well, that partly explains how my high-school educated parents got a new car every few years in the 1970s. Of course, two-year-old cars were already rusting back then, but still...
