Unintended consequence: Fed judge says school has to allow After School Satan Club - pdq - 05-01-2023

The national ACLU, the ACLU of Pennsylvania and Dechert LLP filed suit against the school district on behalf of The Satanic Temple in March, arguing the district violated the First Amendment by prohibiting the club from meeting in the district’s facilities.

Said the judge:

”…although The Satanic Temple, Inc.’s objectors may challenge the sanctity of this controversially named organization, the sanctity of the First Amendment’s protections must prevail.

Personally, not a Satanist. I don’t understand why any group of people would adore an completely amoral entity apparently bent on the destruction of our lives and democracy (but then, I didn’t vote for him in 2016 or 2020).

But, if you’re going to have clubs for one mythical entity meeting on school district facilities, you gotta allow all of em, I guess.

Modern Satanists are cynics and not believers in the occult. The Satanic Temple teaches humanism, egalitarianism, benevolence, empathy, critical thinking, creative expression and compassion. They fight for civil liberties with ironic humor, and in general they are d@mned fine people.

THAT guy... If there's an afterlife, the weight of his sins will surely drop him like a friggin rock down to the nethers of the netherworld.

Satanists don't believe in the Devil. Only Christians do.

Christian, AND Jewish, AND Islamic.

Not the same guy in Judaism. (Actually, multiple guys in Judaism that Christians merged into one and distorted to extremes.)

I’m absolutely no authority on this subject, but faithful Wikipedia doesn’t seem to say that…

“A figure known as ha-satan ("the satan") first appears in the Hebrew Bible as a heavenly prosecutor, subordinate to Yahweh (God), who prosecutes the nation of Judah in the heavenly court and tests the loyalty of Yahweh's followers.[citation needed] During the intertestamental period, possibly due to influence from the Zoroastrian figure of Angra Mainyu, the satan developed into a malevolent entity with abhorrent qualities in dualistic opposition to God. In the apocryphal Book of Jubilees, Yahweh grants the satan (referred to as Mastema) authority over a group of fallen angels, or their offspring, to tempt humans to sin and punish them.”

A Satin Club would be much more fun.

Apocrypha are not part of the biblical text and you apparently didn't look at the next passage in the article, nor the long passages below that.

They identify key figures in the Pentateuch that are LATER incorporated into the figure of Satan.

Just keep scrolling down that page.

Eventually, you'll even see a (very general and abridged) description of how various Jewish sects interpret the character "Satan."
