Coronation - Ca Bob - 05-02-2023 Do we need a temporary sticky for coronation jokes? Charles is so old, his first Christmas was . . . the first Christmas Are any of the east coast MRF players going to watch the coronation, considering that it starts at 5:30 AM out there. I don't think there will be a lot of hits in California except maybe the one or two English pubs holding private parties after closing time. And but for an accident in birth order, it could have been King Andrew, in which case the choice of queen consort would have been considerably different. Instead of being 14 years younger than the new king, she would be 14 years. King Charles' first drivers license is in cuneiform. (do princes have drivers licenses?) On a semi-serious note, is there any way to make this at all interesting? What's missing is a beautiful commoner girl who is being made a princess, as happened in the royal marriages. Apparently Elizabeth had the glamor at her coronation to carry the ratings, if there were ratings. Can anybody do a joke about Trump's planned trip to his Scottish golf course for the period spanning the coronation, considering that he was not invited? Or more seriously, can the UK tell DJT that he cannot come to London for the coronation? British coronations have been really far apart. How far? About as far apart as Cubs World Series championships. But they are long -- about the length of the average Pete Davidson relationship. And may not be watching later either. I can't work up a lot of enthusiasm for this thing despite being somewhat of a Royals stan. Charles is no Liz, that's for sure. Re: Coronation - Lemon Drop - 05-02-2023 I will watch it live early Satirday morning. My Mom, now 81, watched the 1952 coronation of Elizabeth II on a small black and white set in her grandparents' living room. I watched the wedding of Charles and Diana, the weddings of their sons and the funerals of Prince Philip and the late Queen. I love the ceremony, the settings, and the music. I don't want my own monarchy and I'm glad we threw them off. Lord knows they are a dysfunctional family. But there is some pull to those ancient ties on the emerald isles. It's just for fun. Re: Coronation - Lux Interior - 05-02-2023 Charles is old. Maybe it will be like 1978, when we had two pope funerals. King Charles now & King Bill later in the year.
