That's going to be a very popular machine.

Does it run 2 monitors or just one?

Using DisplayLink, can easily run 2 external monitors.

But it seems to be the same basic model as the M2 MBA 13, which means only one external monitor natively supported.

Zero interest in DisplayLink. It isn't native, and doesn't "just work".

I have no idea what issues you have, but it's been seamless for me for years.

Native would be better, however. Apple COULD have fully supported DisplayPort, and every single USBC hub would be native dual monitor support.

Sounds like you're not the target audience. Have you checked out the MacBook Pro?

I think the issue is with DisplayLink at any time Apple could release an update that breaks functionality... in the name of security or just to be unkind to those who haven't purchased the upmarket products that truly support multiple displays (as opposed to DisplayLink which acts as a fancy splitter... and which is a software driver/app used for many different manufacturers' hardware sets.

I was hoping the M3 would be announced and that would be its big feature boost - native support for up to 4 screens from the M1/M2's meagre two.

I already have a MBP. But I support hundreds of users, many of which need to use two monitors for web browsing and spreadsheets and absolutely do not need the power of a MBP just because they want 2 monitors. With supporting hundreds of users we are NOT going to implement some third party thing that may or may not work or cause issues. Our users don't support themselves and we do not have the bandwidth to deal with problems that arise outside of the norm.

Apple will want you to buy a Vision Pro if you need more than one screen.
