It's never dangled like that, but it did get stuck out over the East River for about 4 hours some years ago. Nope. But I had read how OTIS elevators have an automatic brake system, so I was not worried. Decades later, I'm on the Albuquerque-Sandia Tram, and I find myself controlling my breath (to avoid hyperventilating). My then 5 year old daughter was amazed that I was not relaxed. We had about 1000 feet of air between us and the mountain below. |
