5+ days without power or internet - steve... - 08-24-2023 (far northern California coast Over a week ago, we had many lightning strikes that started lots of forest fires, over a dozen in my little county alone. Because of the smoke, the electric company (Pacific Power) de-energized the only transmission lines into the county - they come from the east over the mountains. In the meantime, they've been bringing in huge generators to power the whole county. I had power early this morning and the rest of the county is supposed to be covered in the next couple of days. When the fire activity subsides, they will be able to make repairs and re-energize the transmission lines. The largest fire is at 47,000 acres with zero percent containment. There are about 1200 people from all over the west, fighting the fires. Some areas have been evacuated. It's a very rugged landscape. They've been able to drop lots of fire retardant over the last few days. We have highway 101 open going north and south but Highway 199 (which is a 2 hour drive to the east and I-5) is closed. They're hoping to have escorted one lane traffic, twice daily on Monday. Was really nice to have a hot shower this morning. Wild Coast Compass Re: 5+ days without power or internet - rgG - 08-24-2023 Oh man, that is awful. I had no idea. Re: 5+ days without power or internet - Ombligo - 08-24-2023 Sounds like a generator is in your future. We didn't need ours until close to seven years after we bought it, then it paid for itself in a week. Don't fire it up until needed. Then after that fire it up once a year and keep gas stabilizer in it. Remember to get 5-6 five gallon gas containers as well Re: 5+ days without power or internet - August West - 08-24-2023 So sorry to see this, steve... When we lived in SFO, we camped our way up to Vancouver, BC. one summer. Your area of the country sits within some of my happiest memories. Godspeed to you and your peeps up there. And it cleans the fuel system. Star Tron Enzyme Fuel Treatment and if you can get it, buy non-ethanol fuel. big bottle, dose your cars or truck as a fuel system cleaner. Contains PEA, which is what is in Techron and other major name brand cleaners. REALLY SMELLS! get nitrile gloves. Re: 5+ days without power or internet - Michael - 08-24-2023 Smote wrote: Thanks. I bought a bottle. My SIL left his Honda mower with gas in it when they decided to hire a guy to mow. I got it 4 years later and it wouldn't start. I poured out the sludgy gas and put new in. I put some cleaner in the tank with the gas, hoping that would do it. I can start it for a moment with starter fluid. I've just gotten some spray carb cleaner that I'll use and see what happens. Maybe putting the Star Tron in the gas, the carb cleaner and the starter fluid might break up the clogs. Ultimately I can take the carb apart to clean it but I'd sure like to avoid that. Re: 5+ days without power or internet - Racer X - 08-24-2023 I think on the Star Tron site they mention if you have tank build-up, it can eventually let go, so be wary of clogged filters. If you use it from new, it never gets a chance to build up. IT SMELLS! Re: 5+ days without power or internet - Forrest - 08-25-2023 The LP tank connected to my grill is still working fine after 4 years Re: 5+ days without power or internet - Racer X - 08-25-2023 Forrest wrote: I always have a full tank in reserve. When I swap to it, the empty gets refilled. And not a "swap", those are usually only 3/4 full. Re: 5+ days without power or internet - Speedy - 08-25-2023 Good luck, steve⦠|
