I guess I need an outdoor security camera. Suggestions? - chopper - 08-25-2023 I left a motorcycle wheel outside last night for my tire guy to pick up this morning early ... and it was gone this morning. I guess there is someone desperate enough to steal an aluminum wheel. We are going to need to get some outdoor security cameras. Any suggestions? Wireless would be great and Apple friendly also appreciated. I have motion detector lights up. I guess this probably helped the thief to not trip when sprinting away. Could have been much worse. Re: I guess I need an outdoor security camera. Suggestions? - mattkime - 08-25-2023 I went with Nest cameras for two main reasons - at the time, they offered the best motion light + camera combo AND their service fee is reasonable. You can swap out the motion detector lights with a camera. Ideally they're mounted just a few feet out of reach (10 ft?) - they cam be mounted higher but it might be more difficult to recognize someone on camera. For me, it was important to have the integrated motion light - if someone's doing something near my house that they shouldn't be, it should be abundantly clear to them that I might be aware of it. Re: I guess I need an outdoor security camera. Suggestions? - Gareth - 08-25-2023 Reminder - Cameras don't deter theft. They just let you know for sure that something got stolen. It would be better to lock up items (i.e. with a combination lock and give your tire guy the code). Still might not prevent them from cutting the lock, but it might if it was just an opportunity theft. Re: I guess I need an outdoor security camera. Re: I guess I need an outdoor security camera. Suggestions? - davemchine - 08-25-2023 I have Ring camera's all around our house. The video quality is very good, the notifications are prompt, the recording service thru Ring is only $100/yr. I've used the video when giving police statements and in a court room and it seemed to be well received and taken into consideration. On the downside Ring recently discontinued their OSX program which was really disappointing. Also, they say you can mute all of the cameras at one time in the case of a lawn service arrival but I haven't found it to work. So I have to mute five cameras individually which is a pain. Muting on one device doesn't mute on all devices so if I'm wearing my watch, carrying my phone, and using my iPad it is quite a party. I have been considering the Ring car camera simply because it is inside the Ring family. Re: I guess I need an outdoor security camera. Re: I guess I need an outdoor security camera. Suggestions? - graylocks - 08-25-2023 I have 3 Wyze cams that I've been happy with for years. I use them outdoors even though technically they are not rated for that. Now Wyze has official outdoor cams. Suits my needs and budget. A few disaffected users on MRF feel otherwise.
