Review of AirPort Extreme 802.11n on macintouch.com - laarree - 02-15-2007 Oh well, I guess there's still nothing better than wired ethernet for the kind of file transfers I need to do sometimes at home (multiple gigabytes of stuff): http://www.macintouch.com/reviews/airportn/ "We couldn't help but feel that Apple's new 802.11n AirPort Extreme base station is a disappointing introduction to 802.11n. Our actual throughput was just 15-20% faster than 802.11g and far below 802.11n's promised potential." and "Overall, we feel the AirPort Extreme 802.11n base station is a good choice for new networks but offers only a few compelling reasons (and performance isn't among them) to upgrade existing 802.11g networks." Re: Review of AirPort Extreme 802.11n on macintouch.com - thermarest - 02-16-2007 good review. AirPort Disk is certainly appealing for a lot of what I do...but you won't find me paying $180 for it. Re: Review of AirPort Extreme 802.11n on macintouch.com - laarree - 02-16-2007 A friend was just over visiting. He had just bought and set up an Airport Extreme base station and attached a hard drive to it, on which he had a collection of Quicktime movies. We were sitting in my apartment kitchen, and his Airport Extreme/hard drive was over 100 feet away on his bedroom's window sill. He had his MacBook Pro with him, and he was able to connect to his network and play some MOVs off his drive -- with many hiccups, but I was still impressed that we could do it at all at this distance. |
