I've got an 89 year old asking me to get a tablet; don't really want to buy an iPad, this is a hisorically windows user, mainly gmail, web, maybe some sort of messaging. I,m turning to the MRF pack for survival.
Any reccos or prior experience?

Regular $300 iPad, and get the gMail App so the interface is familiar.

What kind of phone do they have? My 89 year old father astonished me by actually using and liking the iPad. He did start with an iPhone, so there’s that.
Dad was a notorious technophobe
We resurrected it during Covid so Mom could read library books. She has actually apologized for refusing to read ebooks up to that point.

Mom's 82 and loves her iPad though to be fair she's been using one since her early 70s.

My 90 year old father-in-law and his iPad are inseparable.
whether or not they are a windows user, the iPad will be less of a headache for you than an android tablet.

There are times when I wish i bought an iPad, but I couldn't justify spending the money when for library book downloads and the occasional game, my cheap Kindle Fire is doing what I need it to for the time being.

My mother used her iPad Pro almost up to the day she died, four days shy of 100.

My 80-something inlaws have gotten good use out of a Kindle Fire 10" and don't seem to need my help too often.
