low down dirty shame?!....'The Marvels' looking at lowest Disney/Marvel Universe movie domestic opening ever.... - NewtonMP2100 - 11-11-2023

......that's even lower than 'The Incredible Hulk' in 2008 ($55.4M).....this includes Friday tickets so far.....Thursday preview tickets already hit a low.....

.....3 day estimate $47M-$55M......this is an estimate so far, there is always a chance it could do better....

....The Marvels is shaping up to be the lowest domestic opening ever for a Disney Marvel Cinematic Universe title, with a 3-day swing of $47M-$55M. That’s lower than Marvel/Universal’s The Incredible Hulk ($55.4M in 2008) and lower than Ant-Man ($57.2M, 2015).

What a second — what about Howard the Duck, which debuted to $5M in 1986? We’re talking about all those movies steered and produced by Kevin Feige, largely while he was producing Paramount and Disney Marvel movies (Incredible Hulk being in the canon, with cameos by Iron Man’s Robert Downey Jr).

But more to the low openings for Marvel movies. There have been others outside Disney’s MCU, i.e. Sony/Marvel’s Morbius ($39M in 2022), 20th Century Fox’s 2015 Fantastic Four reboot ($25.6M), 1998’s Blade at $17M and Fox/Marvel’s Daredevil spinoff Elektra at $12.8M. Comparing The Marvels to those movies, it’s not the lowest ever for a feature Marvel adaptation.

Friday looks to be $21M-$22M, including previews, for the pic starring Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani. Hopefully, the last-minute stunting with stars back to work after the actors strike helps.......

It wasn't good.

It wasn't terrible, but as I think back on it... I'm moving towards... yeah... It was kinda bad.

Had a lot of the right stuff in it, but was almost entirely missing beats that would have added emotional weight. It felt slapped together, with a script written by an AI fed on nothing but Marvel movies and TV shows.

OMG! That was horrible and terrifying and a naive sixteen year old girl had to witness it! Let's quickly move onto the next thing and never speak of this!

A bad guy who just kinda zips in for a few critical moments, with a standard backstory.

Don't take a moment to make any plans. There's someone who can explain everything and tell you what to do IMMEDIATELY with no thought whatsoever using treknobabble.

Soooo many plot holes. The third act was basically just a string of them. Multiple deus ex plot devices. How about a MacGuffin that disappears as soon as it serves a purpose? Yeah, they did that. (No explanation. I guess they just forgot about it.)

I keep thinking about what it might be like with a Joss Whedon script-fix. Brighten up the dialog, add a few moments where the characters properly mourn, or get scared, or even just sit down at a meal together and bond. There was a moment where it looked like they were going to do that, but they quickly went another direction. What they have is little more than an outline. They needed someone talented to fill in the gaps.

...If you see the end-credits scenes, you have everything that this movie seems to exist for.

Eventually we have to move on from the very popular superhero movies. I vote for a return to singing and dancing.

It looks like it's pretty bad.

Marvel had one hell of a run, but after No Way Home they ran out of gas.

Even worse when you add inflation. Hulk would get about 77M in today's dollars! Marvels get about $39M in 2008 dollars.

No red suit, no white cape, no gold lightning bolt, no Captain Marvel. Let's see the real Miss Marvel Movie now!
