Best travel speaker - davemchine - 11-11-2023
I’ve been carrying a Bose SoundLink II when I travel but I am considering an upgrade if there is anything better. I know they made a SoundLink III but reviews don’t seem to indicate a huge leap in sound quality. Any suggestions? Budget is under $1k. It must pack away in my overnight bag similar to the SoundLink II.

ikea has an inexpensive ($15) bluetooth speaker which is water resistent and has the ability to be paired (wirelessly) with a second identical speaker as a stereo pair.

Wow, never expected to hear of Boombotix here! That company was started by some of my son's classmates. I had several of the early models, kind of the kickstarter thing before Kickstarter was a thing. Since that time, those sort of bluetooth speakers have become the scourge of just about every outdoor activity, so I haven't had anything that portable in years.
My standard recommendation in the bluetooth speaker world is the Marshall speakers. Classic good looks and sound great too. We have two in our family.

Sonos Move looks like a good speaker but I’m not sure about the round form factor in a suitcase. Reviews of sound quality seemed to focus on loudness vs clarity.

Bang & Olufsen Beolit 20 Looks right but they waste money on a built in phone charger. It’s about 2X as thick as the Bose but that does accommodate much larger speakers. Wether that translates to significantly better sound I don’t know.

Dali Katch G2 Is the right form factor, weight, and the reviews focus on sound quality. Strong contender.

Vifa Helsinki initially looked good. Price indicates quality, very attractive, form factor looks right but reviews on sound quality were negative so no.

The Dali seems like the clear winner from reading reviews. I need to find a place where I can listen to it. Or I could just buy it from someplace with a good return to see in place it doesn’t work out.
