WTF. Makes no sense at all!
So, what do the photogs here use for conversions to .dng’s, if you do those conversions?
I ask as I’ve doing some experimenting with old noisy images shot back in prehistoric times with older cameras, especially my trusty SX60.
The latest versions of Photoshop have the Enhance/Denoise feature in the Camera Raw palette that’s giving my SX60, e.g., new life. But some older cameras that don’t shoot RAW are what I’d like to process with Denoise but with the latest Adobe DNG Converter version, it won’t convert JPEGs to DNG! There is some discussion online but I’ll start with this august forum first...
Man, Adobe can make me nuts. They can design some cool features but then do some pretty dumb things.

Yes. That’s what it is for.
You do realize that the advantage offered by RAW went out the window as soon as the image became a jpeg?

It's been quite a long time since I briefly experimented with DNGs. I think I only did so because my older Adobe software did not support my then "newer" camera. This hasn't been an issue for me for many years, and I never convert to DNG.
I've never heard of converting a JPG to DNG. I wouldn't think it would be of any value. Even if it opened up some RAW-only capabilities in PS, you're still stuck with how the JPG was baked.

I’d consider converting what the camera originally captured to lossless TIFF.

PS can open jpeg's in the Camera Raw palette. But it won't process a jpeg in Denoise nor a psd nor tiff; just RAW formats.
The images I want to work with are from a camera that doesn't have a RAW format.

Gaussian Blur, followed by Unsharp Mask is my go to.
