December 26th- Taking the day off? - SteveG - 12-16-2023 Only Monday 25th is a paid holiday everywhere. That leaves December 26th 'Joy and Hangover and Boxing Day' officially a work day. In the places I've worked, many people take it as a personal day or vacation day. What are your plans? Re: December 26th- Taking the day off? - Tiangou - 12-16-2023 I "earn" PTO based on hours worked. I need to be careful how I "spend" it so that I can have a spare day for a sick day or doctor's appointment or travel for a funeral as these things happen. So, I'm NOT taking an extra day for the holiday. Re: December 26th- Taking the day off? - gadje - 12-16-2023 last day of work is Dec 21. Return to work Jan 2 Re: December 26th- Taking the day off? - archipirata - 12-16-2023 I usually take the whole week between Christmas and New Year's off (same this year). We can only roll over a max. number of accrued hours off and I never use it all during the rest of the year. Since my part time teaching job is in between semesters over the holidays I can actually get a whole week 100% off from both jobs. Re: December 26th- Taking the day off? - ka jowct - 12-16-2023 In my old office job, we got an extra day if the holiday fell on a Tuesday or Thursday; sometimes if it fell on a Monday. Since I work for myself and people always need me on holidays: no time off. I've worked every major holiday since mid-2006. Re: December 26th- Taking the day off? - Lux Interior - 12-16-2023 We get the week off. And I take the week before as vacation. And I don't work Fridays. And I take vacation on Thursdays in December. It's nice having 5 weeks of vacation and only working 30 hours a week. (semi-retired) Re: December 26th- Taking the day off? - JoeH - 12-16-2023 Before I retired I took the whole week or so off. After the end of the semester my hours would change from evenings to daytime for the Winter break, just didn't want to deal right away with the time shift. Also I was earning 5 weeks of vacation time a year by then, hard to take much time other than then and during the Summer. Re: December 26th- Taking the day off? - Racer X - 12-16-2023 my brother is working on the 24th, the night shift. Triple overtime. He'll make a grand. If they go over 8 hours, no clue what he'll make. |
