HAPPY PACZKI DAY!!! - spacescape - 02-20-2007

If you don't know what a Paczki is here you go. I just had my third one since yesterday and I'm officially done.

How are they different from donuts (jelly filled donuts?)?

According to this article...

http://www.beaumonthospitals.com/pls/portal30/cportal30.story_page1?l_recent=264

"A typical five ounce paczki contains about 420 calories, 25 or more grams of fat, and is loaded with refined carbohydrates which are directly converted into fat."

YIKES. I'm done and I'm going to exercise tonight.

I believe a Jelly Donut is around 290 calories and 16 grams fat according to this link.

In German, they are called Berliner

So that is what JFK actually said in his famous speech to the Germans when he said "Ich bin ein Berliner." He actually said he was a jelly filled doughnut. Big Grin

I bought the last THREE pooch-kies at lunch for my kids.

Re: HAPPY PACZKI DAY!!! - dmann - 02-20-2007

When I worked in an office, I would always bring paczki for a Fat Tuesday treat. Now that I work alone from home, I won't bring those things within a mile of my house!

If I had a client presentation today, I probably would have brought some along but all in all it is way better that I stay as far away from a bakery as possible. Smile

No poochkies here in FL. I miss them; my heart does not.

Re: HAPPY PACZKI DAY!!! - msienkiewicz - 02-21-2007

I hadn't heard about paczki until last year, when my brother mentioned them in an email. He was working in the Detroit area then where they are popular. I looked for a local source to no avail.

This year they showed up at the local Giant supermarkets - and were even a special feature in the bakery ads. I've seen King cakes there before but not paczki.

I must have purchased my box at the wrong time because they were a little stale...
