Recommendations for online gourmet cookies/brownies/cakes - pinkoos - 02-20-2007 Hi, I'm on a quest to taste some really good gourmet desserts and am looking for recs (hopefully based on experience) from you guys regarding cookies/brownies/cakes, etc. Googling ends up with so many hits for online gourmet desserts that it's really hard to tell what's good and what's not. Thanks! Re: Recommendations for online gourmet cookies/brownies/cakes - Fritz - 02-20-2007 I've yet to find anything online that competes with local providers for both taste and cost. or Trader Joes, if you have one near. Re: Recommendations for online gourmet cookies/brownies/cakes - pinkoos - 02-20-2007 Alas, no Trader Joe's in Houston (my sister-in-law usually brings stuff when she visits from California, though). Re: Recommendations for online gourmet cookies/brownies/cakes - papercup - 02-20-2007 A good "cheat" is to buy a good boxed brownie mix, and add chunk/chips of gourmet chocolate, macadamia nuts, drizzle in some fudge/chocolate syrup. Bam! Re: Recommendations for online gourmet cookies/brownies/cakes - Buzz - 02-20-2007 you need not look any further; than this. Re: Recommendations for online gourmet cookies/brownies/cakes - blusubaru - 02-20-2007 I just bought a box of these http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_ss_1/002-9798228-0195256?ie=UTF8&search-alias=grocery&field-keywords=immaculate%20cookies%20company to sample the Amazon grocery service. I got the oatmeal raisin. Not sure how "gourmet" they are, but they're organic and not all that bad for you compared to regular cookies. Re: Recommendations for online gourmet cookies/brownies/cakes - davemchine - 02-20-2007 hand down, mrs beasely's is amazing, use the link above. You will think you have gone to heaven. Dave Re: Recommendations for online gourmet cookies/brownies/cakes - mrthuse - 02-20-2007 Discovered Berger Cookies in the middle of the Susquehanna River on a kayak outing last October w/ friends. If you live near Baltimore, they're in every supermarket; if not, on line. They are amazing cookies: hearty shortbread slathered on one side w/ a dark chocolate fudge icing. They are to one's mouth as Uggs are to one's feet. Extraordinary cookies in every sense. Outside of cookies iin Belgium, they're the best cookies I've ever tasted. Re: Recommendations for online gourmet cookies/brownies/cakes - Buzz - 02-20-2007 sorry, when I told Mrs. Buzz about recommending Mrs. Beasley's, she chastised me for not mentioning they're kinda pricey... she knew what I recommended w/o a hitch on her first guess, and w/o missing a beat, she asked, "did you tell them how expensive Mrs. Beasley's stuff can be...???" I told her there was no mention of cost in the original post, and that you cannot put a price on quality. minor example; about 8 or 9 years ago when Baby Buzz was in pre-school, the parents would bring treats for the class and teachers for their kid's birthday. typically, it would run $15, to $20 tops, for some mini-muffins, cookies, brownies, etc. from the grocery store, and there were always leftovers, so that kids, parents and teachers from the other classes could snipe at the next recess. $100 later at Mrs. Beasley's, not even a crumb leftover for anyone from anywhere at recess time. the next year it was back to Ralph's or Von's... Re: Recommendations for online gourmet cookies/brownies/cakes - pinkoos - 02-20-2007 Thanks to all for the recs. And, Buzz, isn't it always the wife who worries about the price? My wife does the same. Actually, I've started paying attention to price just so I don't get in hot water with the missus! ;-) |
