Navarro files emergency appeal to Supreme Court to avoid jail - steve... - 03-16-2024

Does this mean a delay for his Tuesday jail appointment?

March 15 (UPI) -- Former Trump administration adviser Peter Navarro filed a last-ditch appeal to the Supreme Court Friday, just days before his scheduled prison sentence.

Navarro is supposed to report to federal prison in Miami Tuesday to begin serving a four-month sentence for defying a House Jan. 6 select committee subpoena.

In the emergency application to the Supreme Court obtained by ABC News, attorney Stanley Woodward argued Navarro "is indisputably neither a flight risk nor a danger to public safety should he be released pending appeal."

"For the first time in our nation's history, a senior presidential adviser has been convicted of contempt of Congress after asserting executive privilege over a congressional subpoena," Woodward's filing said. "Dr. Navarro has appealed and will raise a number of issues on appeal that he contends are likely to result in the reversal of his conviction, or a new trial."

Navarro was convicted in September on two counts of contempt of Congress for refusing to provide testimony and documents to the committee that investigated the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

What is the Supreme Court of the United States supposed to have to do with this guy's prison sentence? Is anyone who is convicted of _____ (drugs, theft, rape, etc.) supposed to be able to appeal their conviction to SCOTUS?

Then follow the Ollie North guide to cashing in on executive branch crime. His speaker fee has to at least double if he serves time.

He should be on his knees praying thanks to the lord that his sentence is so light despite all of his dastardly deeds. Sissy.

I think anyone can appeal a criminal conviction or civil case to the Supreme Court. You need a LOT of money for lawyers - especially since it usually has to go through several layers of courts to get to the Supreme Court if you keep appealing. The chances of the appeal getting any action from the Supreme Court other than rejecting the appeal is small.

I decided to go back to Yosemite for another short camping trip - I'll be there on Tuesday. I'll be sure to think of ol' Pete while I'm enjoying my freedom.
