Uh-Ohtani! - bfd - 03-20-2024

Seems his interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, is accused of "massive theft" of Shohei's money.

Some say up to $4.5M !!

What's a few million among friends?

A few social media honks speculate that Shohei is truly the mastermind, and Ippei was just the one thrown under the bus.

Either way, time will tell. Never a dull moment with the Dodgers!

He was at the game they just played.

It apparently revolves around professional sports new center - gambling.

I thought there was no theft involved, that Ohtani was willingly trying to help him. At any rate, we're going to see loads more stuff like this as the "stigma" of gambling is eliminated.

Seems Ohtani could've just as likely "lent" his friend/interpreter the money to stop the bleeding on the friend/interpreter's gambling debts.

Somehow, the fact that gambling was involved at all deserves all the questions that are going to be asked as this plays out. Manfred's going to be on the hot seat as well.

Pete Rose is still waiting - patiently or not - to see his name on a HOF ballot.

Re: Uh-Ohtani! - Ca Bob - 03-21-2024

It's getting a lot of attention in the local news here in So Cal. It is always possible that Ohtani was placing bets through his interpreter, which would be considered a tragedy here locally, since it would presumably result in Ohtani being thrown out of Major League Baseball, at least for a while. There have already been two competing and contradictory stories, one that Ohtani was helping out a friend, the other that the interpreter stole from Ohtani. The naive fan base might be forgiven for wondering how the interpreter had access to Ohtani's money, and how Ohtani and his financial advisors were unaware.

ESPN is now saying Ohtani's lawyers are adamant there was some sort of theft involved. I am not sure what to make of all this. From reports that I have seen, Ohtani lives a pretty simple life and doesn't spend very much money. I guess we'll see what happens.

Zero chance Ohtani was betting on games through the guy.
