What device do you use to get a large item to a ceiling? - ho'ard - 02-27-2007

Need to install a large industrial air purifier (hung from concrete ceiling).
Is there a special sort of platform/jack for this, and does it have a special name I can search under?
Thx . . .

Dang, fly over some of these model numbers--

I'm getting that same feeling I had when I was a kid drooling over anything battery operated in the Sears and Penney's hoilday catalogues . . .

More importantly how are you going to hang it from a concrete ceiling?

Do you have a rotohammer or Hilti gun?

How heavy?

If you install your anchors correctly two guys on two ladders can raise a 200-300lb unit 10 to 12' in the air from ladders.

Higher or heavier use a scissor lift.

Honestly, I would be inclined (for liability reasons) to hire that work done...

Now, if it was over my OWN HEAD, and liability was not my concern...
I'd rent a scissor lift from whatever local tool rental place you have, and whatever attachment hardware it comes with, use it... and then add a couple steel safety straps with good quality bolt anchors... and leave a SMALL gap between the unit and the safety straps...
That way if the main attachment FAILS, you KNOW it has failed because your yearly inspection catches that the safety straps are now bearing on the unit.

Of course, I live in an earthquake zone, and have to worry a bit more about hanging loads not gettin' shook down onto my noggin...

I h' has got it right and you rent these because very few people have a frequent need for them. A big rental house like United Rental has all the things you will need and they know their stuff.

Depending on how high and how much it weighs, a sheetrock lift might work.
